I’ll be happy WHEN…

Have you ever said “I’ll be happy when_______”

I’ll be happy WHEN I get that job.

I’ll be happy WHEN I find a boyfriend (or girlfriend).

I’ll be happy WHEN I make more money.

And then you achieve the goal, whatever is is….the job, or boyfriend, or money and VIOLA, you live happily ever after. Right?


Usually achieving these goals give us a “happy-high.” We’re happy for a short time but then we go back to the way we were – feeling less than satisfied with our lives, and searching for the next “happy-hit.”

I’ve experienced this many times before, especially with my first career when I worked in investments. I had a whole list of I’ll be happy WHENs. I’ll be happy when I buy a house, I’ll be happy when I get a promotion, I’ll be happy when I don’t have such a long commute. I accomplished these goals, and had a “happy-high” that lasted for a few days but I quickly went back to feeling quite miserable with my life.

Can you relate to this?!

Good question, right?

Start with answering these three questions:

What are you good at? (strengths)

What’s important to you? (values)

What do you enjoy? (pleasures)

And then take the most important step, and put this into ACTION.
